Copyright & DMCA Policy

Catalog data (facts about stamps) is not copyrightable and is dedicated to the public domain under CC0. Images, however, can be protected by copyright. We respect intellectual property and respond to valid notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) and comparable laws. Every contributor affirms at upload that they created the image or it is in the public domain.

Send copyright notices to our designated agent at dmca@openstampcommons.org (Alpha Romeo Delta LLC, Attn: DMCA Agent). This address is for copyright complaints only; other matters should go to legal@openstampcommons.org.

To be effective, your written notice must include:

• Your physical or electronic signature.
• Identification of the copyrighted work you claim was infringed.
• The specific URL(s) or OSID(s) of the material you want removed, with enough detail for us to locate it.
• Your name, address, telephone number, and email.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.

• A Steward reviews the complaint, typically within 48 hours.
• If it is actionable, we replace the image with a placeholder while the record itself stays in the catalog, and we notify the uploader.
• Removed images are quarantined (not immediately deleted) to preserve a record pending any appeal or legal process.

If you believe your image was removed by mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to dmca@openstampcommons.org including your signature, identification of the removed material and its prior location, your contact information, your consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate U.S. federal court, and a statement under penalty of perjury that the material was removed by mistake or misidentification. Unless the complainant files a court action, we may restore the material in 10–14 business days.

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of repeat infringers. Knowingly materially misrepresenting that material is infringing — or was removed by mistake — may expose you to liability for damages under Section 512(f) of the DMCA. Abuse of this process is itself a violation of our Acceptable Use Policy.
