Using the data
Every record carries an open CC0 license. Browsing, searching, and resolving OSIDs on the site is free and needs no account. Programmatic access is through the API, with higher-volume tiers for developers and institutions.
The license
All catalog data is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0. You may copy, modify, redistribute, and build on it — commercially or not — without permission and without attribution. A CC0 dedication can't be revoked, so the data stays open.
What's covered
Every record with its full version history and provenance; the country, currency, revenue subclass, and TYPE registries; and verification status with vote tallies. Contributor emails and account data are never included. Images carry their own per-image rights metadata, recorded at upload.
Programmatic access
The catalog is free to browse, search, and resolve on the site — no account, for anyone. Retrieving records programmatically is done through the API, offered on paid developer and institutional tiers sized by volume. What you pay for is the convenience and capacity of API access, not the records themselves, which remain CC0. The API docs cover the endpoints and the tiers.
Bulk and commercial
OSC does not host a free bulk download. Bulk and high-volume access — for developers, dealers, auction houses, and institutions — is arranged through the API's higher tiers; write to us and we'll find the right fit.
Attribution is never required. A link back to the OSID resolver, where practical, helps the next person find the canonical record.
